Nominations open for The Royal Society of Tasmania Medals on Offer in 2025

The RST will offer three medals in 2025: The Royal Society of Tasmania Medal, the Clive Lord Medal and the MR Banks Medal. The Call for Medal Nominations opens on 30 June. Nominations for these three medals close on 31 August. Note: Nominations may be made by anyone, although self-nominations are not accepted. Open this post for more details.

On 26 March 2025 a full house in the Society Lecture Room enjoyed a talk by Tasmanian author David Owen. He took us on a fascinating journey sharing his experiences as a crime fiction writer. Vale Distinguished Professor James Barrie Kirkpatrick AM 1946 – 2024

Distinguished Professor James Barrie Kirkpatrick AM, one of the Royal Society’s most prestigious members and prolific contributor, died on 21 October 2024 in Hobart. Professor Kirkpatrick was awarded the RST Clive Lord Medal in 2019 for his outstanding research on Tasmania’s natural environment and maintained a publication record in the Society’s Journal which spanned half a century.
