Trevor was awarded the inaugural MR Banks Medal in 1998 and The Royal Society of Tasmania Medal in 2013. He is an important, founding member of the team who provided a thermodynamically consistent equation of seawater (EOS), called TEOS-10. This equation is used the world over by oceanographers. TEOS-10 was adopted by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission in 2009.
