The Royal Society of Tasmania (South)
2021 Lecture Series

While COVID-19 pandemic restrictions apply, lectures will be face-to-face in the RST Lecture Room at TMAG and/or delivered online using Zoom. Venues for other events will be confirmed closer to the date of the event. Lectures will be on Sunday afternoons at 3 pm (except where otherwise indicated). 

We hope that you will all find this a convenient and an enlightening way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  As usual, there is something for everyone and everything of value and interest to inquiring minds of all persuasions.


Sunday March 7.  AGM, Tasmanian Australian of the Year for 2020, Jessica Melbourne-Thomas.


Tuesday March 16. Medal presentation by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AC, Governor of Tasmania at Government House.


Sunday April 11. 2020 Peter Smith Medal Lecture, Dr Frances Sussmilch.


Sunday May 2. Dr Imogen Wegman, early Tasmanian maps and exploration.


Wednesday June 23. RST-ATSE joint lecture, 7 pm, Stanley Burbury Theatre, UTas.


Monday July 12. Royal Society of Tasmania Mid-Winter Dinner and Lecture, Susannah Fullerton.


Sunday August 1. 2020 Doctoral Award Lecture, Dr Adam Abersteiner.


Thursday August 26. Joint Beer Aquatic Event for National Science Week at Hobart Brewing Company.


Sunday September 5. 2020 Doctoral Award Lecture, Dr Alessandro Silvano.


Sunday October 3. A/Prof Rebecca Carey – volcanology and adventures investigating eruptions on the seafloor.


Sunday November 7. Dr Lila Landowski – Developmental Neurobiology, Neurorepair, Neuropathy, Stroke.


Thursday December 9. Christmas Dinner and Lecture at RYCT. Prof Greg Lehman – Topic still to be finalised.
