The Royal Society of Tasmania (RST) values the privacy of our members and website visitors. Our approach to privacy adheres to the Australian Government’s National Privacy Principles. Retention of personal information
We will only record personal information such as: your name, address, email address and telephone numbers if you take out a membership with the RST or make a booking through the Society.
If we do record your personal information, it will not be shared or disclosed to a third party without your consent and then only to be used for the purpose for which you have provided that information. Information will only be shared with a third party if you consent to disclosure or we are compelled and authorised to do so by law.
Secure storage
If you do provide personal information to us, it will be stored in such a way that your personal information is protected from identification, loss or misuse. Only authorised RST personnel are permitted to access personal information and such personal information is treated as confidential.
Tracking
When you visit our website, we log information about your visit so we can administer and improve the site. Information collected includes: server address, date and time of visit, how you got to the site (e.g., Google search), pages you visited and services you used during your visit. This information is anonymous and does not identify you as an individual. No attempt will be made to identify you from this information.
Third party sites
Our website provides links to third party websites beyond our control. We do not accept any responsibility for their activities, and we advise you to examine the terms and conditions of use of these websites before such use and disclosing any information to them.
Review
From time to time the RST may review and update its Privacy Policy and approach. Should we do so, a revised version of the Privacy Policy will be made available on the website.

RST Membership Privacy Policy
Purpose
To provide for the consistent management of the personal information of members of The Royal Society of Tasmania (RST).
Background
The Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 requires that an organisation have a policy for the management of personal information and make the policy available to anyone who asks for it.
Membership Privacy Policy
1. Collection
The RST collects information from members such as title, full name, postal and street address, telephone and email details. Additional information is collected if members take up the option of automatic renewal for membership fee payment. This information is collected directly from members.
2. Use of Information
This information is collected and held by the RST for the purpose of serving the membership and providing information to members about events and activities. It is understood that the personal information members provide will be held and used for such purposes in accordance with this policy.
3. Access and Correction of Information
Members have the right to access the personal information that the RST holds about them at any reasonable time and to provide amendments when necessary. The RST tries to ensure that all personal information collected and stored is accurate and up-to-date. Should personal information change, members are encouraged to notify the Membership Secretary.
4. Disclosure of Information
The RST will not disclose members personal information to any third party. The RST does not sell, rent or exchange personal information with any other organisation except when legally required.
5. Holding Membership information after death or the lapse of membership
A member will become inactive two years after membership has lapsed. After this time, member details will be archived for historical reasons.
6. Breach
The Society will advise members of any breach as soon as reasonably practicable.
