
RST Apology to Tasmanian Aboriginal people 2021.
Funds in the Peter Smith Trust are available to provide travel assistance for Tasmanian Senior Secondary Science students selected to represent Australia in international science competitions of the highest level.
The Royal Society of Tasmania created the Peter Smith Trust following a generous donation from Professor Peter Smith (1924-2017). He was an inorganic chemist, who at the University of Tasmania introduced analytical chemistry, industrial and applied chemistry, and chemistry for engineers.

Peter was a long-term contributor to the RST and was President in 2006. The RST Peter Smith Medal for an outstanding early career researcher in any field is named in his honour.
Applications for the travel bursary can be submitted at any time.
They are dealt with on a rolling basis throughout the year, following the RST Bursary application process outlined at https://rst.org.au/bursaries/.

A recent recipient was Penny Tassicker from Marist Regional College, a member of the Australian team that participated in the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), an annual competition for the world’s most talented chemistry students at the secondary school level.
