Personal profile: Dr Martin Renilson
Martin Renilson was born in Edinburgh and is a graduate of the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
He moved to Tasmania in 1983 to work at the Australian Maritime College, where he established the Ship Hydrodynamics Centre in 1985, and then the Department of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering in 1996.
In 2001 he moved to the UK to work for DERA/QinetiQ, conducting maritime research for the UK MoD. In 2007 he returned to Australia, and in 2012 he was appointed inaugural Dean of Maritime Programs in the UAE.
In addition to over 200 academic papers and book chapters, he is the author of the definitive text book on Submarine Hydrodynamics, published by Springer. He retired in November 2015, and returned to Tasmania, Australia, where he regularly flies his own plane and is now learning to play croquet.
