Summary

In former years when the Governor by convention served as RST President, Sir Guy Green AC, KBE, CVO was President and Patron of the Royal Society of Tasmania from 1995 to 2002, while serving as the Governor of Tasmania. He was always generous with his time and was happy to meet with the members of the RST and offer his support for the various activities and his wise advice about various initiatives. Brian Yates (Senior Vice President of the RST 2000-2001) remembers well the conversations with Sir Guy about the best way for the RST to develop reconciliation with the traditional owners of Lutruwita. In this and many other matters Sir Guy was able to suggest a balanced approach which demonstrated his sound and empathetic understanding of Tasmanian affairs. His interests in philosophy, mathematics and science made him a natural ally of the RST and he took a great interest in the RST awards, seminars and publications. The RST gratefully acknowledges the support and leadership of Sir Guy Green, for the Royal Society of Tasmania and for Tasmania.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Royal Society of Tasmania acknowledges, with deep respect, the traditional owners of this land, and the ongoing custodianship of the Aboriginal people of Tasmania. The Society pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that Tasmanian Aboriginal Peoples have survived severe and unjust impacts resulting from invasion and dispossession of their Country. As an institution dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, the Royal Society of Tasmania recognises Aboriginal cultural knowledge and practices and seeks to respect and honour these traditions and the deep understanding they represent.
