RST Apology to Tasmanian Aboriginal people 2021.
A 28-page digital catalogue featuring 42 historic Tasmanian artworks from the 1840s-1890s. Includes works by prominent colonial artists Francis Guillemard Simpkinson de Wesselow (naval officer/artist, 1845-1848), William Charles Piguenit (first notable Australian-born artist), John Skinner Prout (English watercolorist), Louisa Anne Meredith (pioneering female artist/writer), and others.
The collection documents early European settlement in Tasmania through landscapes, townscapes, botanical studies, and scenic views of Hobart, Mount Wellington, the Derwent River, and other iconic Tasmanian locations. Each artwork includes artist biographical information and historical context. Originally created for the 2025 Oatlands Heritage Festival exhibition, this catalogue preserves nationally significant colonial Australian art that has rarely been publicly displayed.
Perfect for art historians, Australian history enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone interested in Tasmania's colonial heritage and early artistic documentation of the Australian landscape.
