On Artificial Intelligence

Lectures and Events

Summary

Professor Toby Walsh will present the Northern Branch monthly lecture for August with a focus on aspects of Artificial Intelligence at 1.30pm on Sunday 23 August at Horton Auditorium, Scotch Oakburn College, 85 Penquite Road. This event will be held in conjunction with National Science Week.

More details to come later.

AI is transforming our lives. What can it do? What will it do? What should we welcome or fear? It is clear that the next industrial revolution has started. However, there are many misconceptions and fears about where this will take us and if it will improve our lives. AI promises to help lift productivity, improve healthcare & education and tackle many other problems. But it also threatens many jobs, to transform warfare, and to increase inequality. Hear a frank assessment of the risks and the benefits from a leading expert in the area.

Professor Toby Walsh is an award-winning AI researcher, author of five books on the subject for the general public, sought-after speaker, and advocate for limits around AI to ensure it is used to improve our lives. He conducts speaking engagements throughout Australia and around the World (except in Russia, where he has been indefinitely banned).
