
RST Apology to Tasmanian Aboriginal people 2021.
The first Northern Branch lecture for 2026 was held on Sunday 22 February at QVMAG Inveresk. Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, spoke on ‘The Role of the Governor’.

Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC was sworn in as Tasmania’s 29th Governor in June 2021. She retired as a judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia in January 2021, having been the first Tasmanian woman to be appointed as a Federal Magistrate in 2008.
As Patron of the Royal Society of Tasmania, Her Excellency was pleased to deliver a public lecture to the Northern Branch. She discussed the role of the Governor and its ceremonial, constitutional and community engagement aspects. A particular focus of the lecture was the important constitutional duties Her Excellency has performed to facilitate the government of the State.
As Her Excellency approaches the end of her term, which concludes in June 2026, she also offered some highlights of her time as Governor over the past five years.
