RST Apology to Tasmanian Aboriginal people 2021.

Vegetation of the Central Plateau

Papers & Reports

Summary

As might be expected in an upland region, the distribution
of plant communities is determined largely by low
temperatures, in particular by the degree and frequency of
frosts below -5°C, glazing storms, and ice-bearing winds.
The most significant single index which is readily available
is probably the mean summer temperature. A mean temperature
of 10°C for the warmest month has been accepted as the indicator
of the tree line (Daubenmire 1954). Most of the
Central Plateau above 1040m is thus in this category.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Royal Society of Tasmania acknowledges, with deep respect, the traditional owners of this land, and the ongoing custodianship of the Aboriginal people of Tasmania. The Society pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that Tasmanian Aboriginal Peoples have survived severe and unjust impacts resulting from invasion and dispossession of their Country. As an institution dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, the Royal Society of Tasmania recognises Aboriginal cultural knowledge and practices and seeks to respect and honour these traditions and the deep understanding they represent.
