RST Apology to Tasmanian Aboriginal people 2021.

Soil type and land use, Flinders Island

Papers & Reports

Summary

Phases of land settlement and problems of land
development are related to the C.S.I.RO. soil survey
of Flinders Island, 1957. The analysis is in terms
of property ownership whether private or War
Service Land Settlement, type of farming, associated
vegetation, and difficulties of land improvement.
It is concluded that knowledge of soil type
has been essential for the spread of settlement, and
that while further development is physically possible
it may be precluded by the high costs of land
development and the provision of adequate marketing
facilities.
