Summary

South Georgia and the South Sandwich archipelagoes fall within the scope of SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) and CCAMLR (Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources). From the early twentieth century to the present Argentina has proposed and supported intemational agreements and conventions to regulate the harvesting of marine biota, and to promote marine conservation. Adherence to CCAMLR is required by Argentine law.
